| The Craig County Rescue/EMS provides services to the public with two types of emergency apparatus: Basic Life Support Ambulances Advanced Life Support Ambulances Basic Life Support (BLS) Ambulances are staffed by two Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's). Ambulances are equipped to handle calls for assistance for illness & injury not requiring intensive care or medication. Advanced Life Support (ALS) Services are the highest level of pre-hospital emergency care available. All ALS ambulances are staffed by a Cardiac Tech or Paramedic, and a driver. These units are equipped to handle cases involving cardiac or respiratory emergencies such as chest pain, heart attack, trouble breathing or cardiac arrest, as well as allergic reactions, traumatic injuries and any other ailment requiring mobile intensive care. Advanced Life Support skills can include the establishment of IV lines, administration of medications, consultation with Emergency Room doctors while on the scene and/or enroute to the medical facility, defibrillation and other necessary techniques. All vehicles in service with Craig County Rescue/EMS are Advanced Life Support Units. What Else Do We Do? Besides responding to emergencies and keeping the rescue equipment operational, our biggest effort is training. Our members undergo intensive training within their first year. A continuing education program is maintained to keep everyone from the captain to the newest volunteer current with the latest techniques. We also take part in the Craig County Historical Society's Fall Festival each year where we set up our booth and offer free blood pressure screenings and show off some of our latest equipment. |
